Head Spa Scalp Therapy
Blog written by Sleek Owner Abbie Wolf:
Head Spa/Scalp Therapy should most certainly be a part of your wellness routine. Not only is it very relaxing and feels amazing.. targeted scalp massages actually aid in multiple benefits.
What are the Benefits of Head Spa?
1. Releases serotonin, improving your mood and making you feel uplifted
2. Helps balance blood circulation in the head and neck area and oil control on the scalp
3. Strengthens the roots of the hair and nourishes the hair shafts, promoting growth
4. Helps relax the scalp and muscles in the neck area
5. Reduces product build up and removes dead skin cells
6. Promotes a calm and relaxed overall mood
7. Improves the nervous system, promoting healthy blood flow and helping your body better balance and harmonize
8. Helps you feel more relaxed, energized and focused
What does a Head Spa Treatment entail?
A thorough consultation is held to discuss hair & scalp health/concerns prior to starting the Head Spa Treatment and then just as you would for a facial or massage, the client dresses down to their comfort level into a robe. You then lay down on a nice warm bed that is attached to a shampoo basin. A warming lavender eye mask is then applied to help you relax and fully take in the blissful experience. Steam is then applied to the hair to help open up the cuticle during the exfoliation and double cleanse process. A targeted scalp massage is performed using techniques, gua sha combs, and electric massagers. While your scalp cooling mask and deep hair treatment is processing you'll receive a warm oil massage on your chest, neck, and shoulders. This is very beneficial as the nape of the head and neck often hold a lot of tension, stress, and headaches. Mixed with essential oils and hot towels this portion of the Head Spa tends to be clients favorite. A final 5 minute strengthening hair rinse happens under the "golden arch" and this allows for you to just "be" in the moment and take in all of the smells, sounds, and sensations. This 1 hour of bliss is finished off by a leave-in treatment, express blow dry, and also has the options to ala-carte additional perks.
Other things to know...
Hair Color- Head Spa Treatments should be done prior to your hair color appointment. Anytime after hair color (up to 2 weeks) is almost guaranteed to somewhat fade color as this is a deep cleansing treatment and uses warmer water temperatures. A color fading waiver is something you will acknowledge when booking your appointment.
Pregnancy- As long as you are comfortable laying on your back feel free to book an appointment. If you are pregnant you will need to disclose that in the form upon booking as essential oils will be avoided in late term pregnancies. However I am not a medical professional and you should always consult a doctor before participating in spa/salon services while pregnant/breastfeeding.
Medical Related Scalp Conditions- You should never disregard a doctor's recommendations or assume that a Head Spa Treatment would override any prescriptions/topical solutions you are currently taking/using for scalp conditions.
